Even though Barack Obama has occupied the White House for a while, it’s probably still too early to see whether the renewed interest in the political process will continue. This election was unprecedented because of President Obama’s African American lineage, but only over time will we know whether that will be enough to foster peoples’ ongoing interest and support.
It would benefit everyone in the U.S., because there’s been so much strife for so long. American veterans would certainly benefit from such a shift. Many left pieces of themselves on far away battlefields and after serving in a war, they sometimes didn’t get the appreciation they deserved when they came back to the U.S.. That is the reason I created some veterans day clip art that pays homage to veterans. Using the clip art in crafts and on Web sites or print pieces is just one small way that we can pay homage to them. That appreciation could mean the world to veterans who have been disenfranchised. It’s important that we not just celebrate American veterans with occasional Veterans Day greeting cards. Our appreciation for them needs to be constant. They’ve earned it. If we don’t extend that respect toward them; who will?
On the other hand, every American –- not just veterans -– would benefit from the reuniting of the United States. I would love to see people saluting American flag images when on parade, because they genuinely believe in what the flag stands for. One would hope that love of country will move us all a little closer to lasting peace. But will this reunification take place? There are some people who are having a bad reaction to President Obama’s actions. But that’s to be expected. In many ways, having dissension in the process ensures that imprudent ideas don’t just get rubber-stamped. We hope so anyway. The people of the United States will just have to keep their fingers crossed and wait.
