Who is to blame? The media? The political parties? The candidates? John Q. Public?
I think it’s been a combination of the media and the general public for eating what the media feeds us. Instead of performing due dilligence on a candidate and researching their stance on the issues, we look at news snippets and decide to vote for or against someone because they yelled too loudly or because they fuss too much over their hair.
The parties and candidates also play a pretty large role by using these slogans that don’t really mean anything but, instead, evoke feelings. “Cut & run.” “Smoking gun.” “They’ll follow us home.” Fear mongering should not be the basis of a political platform!
Also.. why does it seem like if a candidate makes perfect sense and tells it like it is (like Ron Paul for one), he’s labeled as a radical or as one of the “crazy” ones?
Sorry for the rambling… I’m just frustrated with American politics. At least we get to have elections I guess…
