President Obama has been in office for less than a year. I could understand awarding him the prize after a successful presidency but we don’t even know if his work on nuclear non-proliferation will even be successful or if he can get the United States out of the recession.

Absolutely, so far he hasn’t achieved anything worth a Nobel Prize. When you think of other recipients, such as Aung San Suu Kyi who has been under house arrest for many years awarding Obama is a slap in the face of many others who would have deserved to win a hundred times more!
So far, Obama has neither brought all the U.S. soldiers home from Iraq, nor closed down Guantanamo as he has promised during his campaign! He even voted against McCain’s anti torture law when he was still a senator!
Too early? Probably
A horrible move? Not really
I admit that this wasn’t the right call for the Nobel committee, but I understand why they did it. America has spent the last 8 years both acting like a bad guy and constantly being labeled a bad guy by most of Europe. Obama’s attempts to reach out to the rest of the world are like a breath of fresh air by comparison, and I’m sure the Nobel committee believed that rewarding America for its “good behavior” would encourage more peaceful diplomacy in the future (which is after all the very point of the Nobel peace prize.) Alfred Nobel was far more interested in using the prize to further the undoing of the damage that his destructive invention (TNT) caused than he was in simply rewarding people. Thus, Obama’s outreach even though it hasn’t born fruit is a fair target for the prize. I still think Morgan Tsvangiri should have received the prize this year, but it was almost inevitable that it would be awarded to Obama for reversing American unilateralism at some point during his term.
No it is too late for him to win the nobel peace prize. He should have won it right after his inauguration since his aura will unite the world in peace and harmony. He also should win the Nobel prize in economics because he will singlehandedly bring everlasting prosperity to the US. Obama is the symbol of human progress.
I’ll be running around later trying to catch a pink unicorn. Ah, pure bliss.
